Website stats & our new adverts…

Just something you may be interested in – over the past 10 days we have had between 156 and 312 hits per day on our website. If you discount the 10 or so hits per day that may be us in the office checking things, then that means we are getting a fantastic amount of our customers regularly checking what’s happening at the marina.

We do also have to remind customers that whilst we appreciate constructive feedback about the marina, the local area and boating - good or bad – we do not wish the site to become a “chat forum” and we do reserve all rights to edit any content as we see fit…after all, it is our website.

We have decided to use many of the positive feedback comments in our next advertising campaign and the first free bottle of wine at the bar goes to Ian Smith for his very warm comment of what he & Mrs Smith experienced when he first arrived at Pilling’s Lock.

If you have something you really think sets us above the competition, let us know and if you use your comment a bottle of wine comes your way too!  PL

I reckon i’m due a few bottles of free(?) wine with all the nice things i said about the Marina in the past..
On the outset Pillings Lock was promoted to me as a PRIVATE Marina..On viewing i was impressed enough to invest thousands of pounds on purchasing a lease!!
My interpretation was to be able to shut the Marina gates behind me after an enterprising day and leave all the crap of the outside world behind me!
As a bonus i would get a private parking space..Pity i didn’t read the small print as to it being of not much use..Not only small print but a small space!!
Initialy it was paradise here and like others would be patient to get the full whack of what i paid for!
Sadly as time goes by i feel short changed and now feel the need to up anchor to somewhere else which suits my CUSTOMER requirements!
That is my privacy from the outside world !!!
Overall i feel disappointed not by the general outset of Pillings Lock (i love hanging around here and all the nice people) but by the management that is obsessed with a flippin Cafe/Bar/Restuarant..Which equals the public..which equals problems!
Are you sure that you are cut out to be running a Marina Paul(sorry can’t load a smiley )Can’t you take your Boat House establishment to the Quorn jet set and leave us with refreshments suitable for Marina type customer requirements!!
For a lot of people here they want to have a PRIVATE Marina to which they are paying you loads of money for!!

Yours awaiting to be towed out to the canal!

    David L.

p.s Something that cuts above the competition is the mobile pump-out and fuel delivery!

      Hi David,

As we have said many many times before – our original flyers, artists impression & website promoted a marina with a licensed cafe/bar. Indeed, the cafe bar picture with a decking area (which I notice you never ever use yourself) was on all our flyers from the outset and the finished building is identical. We never once stated that it would not be open to the public and we have spent many thousands of pounds on facilities that are solely for the use of mooring customers. There is also a dedicated team of staff to administer and maintain these facilities just for Berth Holders.

If you think we have mis-represented the outline of our business in any way then I’m afraid I will have to challenge you to substantiate this claim or refrain from commenting about it further.

If you can also find any literature which said it was going to be “Private” please do let me know as I think you may have been reading about another marina!

We have always intended Pilling’s Lock to be a venue that can be enjoyed by as many people as possible and there are other steps we have taken (i.e. not installing draft beers, much to the expense of our bar sales!) to deter any kind of lager-lout element in the local area. Our restaurant is a thriving success story that provides over 12 jobs in an area that is suffering badly from the economic downturn and also encourages many local residents to venture out for meals & drinks because they feel secure in our environment, can park easily and enjoy what we do here.

We couldn’t be happier with our client base as we feel we have achieved almost every goal we set out to obtain.

It is unfortunate that business growth has reduced significantly over the past year, however, when things do pick up we will have things like Electric Gates installed…unless you would like to buy us some? :-)

      Paul.

    Hello Paul

I just had a look at some of the comments made on the webpage blog.

Whilst everyone has a right to their own opinion the method by which it is voiced should be given some consideration.

Your website – and it is your site, is surely designed to promote and attract customers to your lovely Marina – which includes the ability to eat and drink in a sophisticated manner at reasonable cost. Children are safe and engaging with nature rather than computer games, visitors are given opportunity to consider a different lifestyle, which certainly altered my personal views about living aboard positively – and I for one enjoy meeting new people and bringing my friends to relax and unwind from stressful occupations.

Perhaps it is time to remove the blog facility and simply encourage individuals to send comment by email for you to use as appropriate? Otherwise I fear some of the comments will kill the golden goose before you have time to fatten it up!

If I can give any further support to your excellent team or yourself – you know only to ask.

    With kindest regards

    Ken W
